Derrick Burts, aka Cameron Reid, claims his agent, Phil Mack at OC Modeling Agency, encouraged him to stay one month after entering the industry after being infected with chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes. Derrick claims Phil told him:
“You might as well do it if you already have it because you can’t do anything else.”
Derrick entered the industry this June. One month later he finds out he has chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes. He then moved on to gay porn shoots this September. One month later he finds out he’s HIV positive.
According to Derrick, Jennifer Miller, head of the AIM clinic, said she knew he had done a scene with a “known positive” but would not tell him if they were gay or straight due to patient confidentiality.
Derrick told Jennifer that he wanted follow-up treatment which she told him she would get in touch with a specialist. He claims she also told him to change his phone number, delete his Twitter & Facebook accounts, and to get out of town. He also claims that she told him to not talk to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) because they were trying to bring down the porn industry.
Soon after that, Jennifer released a statement claiming Derrick contracted HIV in his personal life. No one can claim this when most in gay porn do not test. So how can anyone at AIM claim he was infected in his personal life when the gay industry doesn’t test?
Derrick says he then had an emotional breakdown while watching a UFC fight on November 24 and became scared for his life. That’s when he decided to call AHF. There he met Dr. Laveeza Bhatti, an HIV care provider. He says her jaw dropped after he told her how AIM allegedly hung up on him each time he called to get documentation of his results.
“This is a multimillion dollar industry and they haven’t reached out to help me, that’s the reason I’m speaking out.”
